Art and Nature with ÞYKJÓ!
The third Thursday of every month until the end of the year from 16:00 – 17:00 at Gerðarsafn.

Nature is an amazing sculptor! The sea grinds rocks, volcanic eruptions leave behind sculpture gardens, and cave paintings are formed where ice has melted. Would you like to come and put yourself in the poses of nature and shape a landscape sculpture? The workshop is led by the design team ÞYKJÓ and is a collaboration between Gerðarsafn and the Kópavogur Natural History Museum.

We explore the connection between sculpture and nature in creative workshops for families at Gerðarsafn. The purpose is to create time and space for family time together after kindergarten or school. The workshops are four in total and no two will be the same.

ÞYKJÓ is a multidisciplinary team of designers who work for children and their families in the fields of experience design, installations, and product design. Their design work aims to stimulate children’s imagination and creativity in collaboration with educational and cultural institutions. Recent projects include the installation Hljóðhimnar in Harpa, the furniture lines Kyrrðarrými and Hreiður and the participatory project Gullplatan. ÞYKJÓ won the Icelandic Design Award 2024 for the project Börnin að tördinu. The group has been nominated for the same award twice, in 2021 and 2022, as well as a nomination for the international YAM award. At Design March 2025, Saga um Þykjó was published, a book that paints a colorful mosaic of the design process and ideology of the ÞYKJÓ design team.

Art and Nature is a collaboration between Gerðarsafn and the Kópavogur Natural History Museum and is supported by the Icelandic Museum Council.
