Join us for a multilingual workshop that brings cultures together through the tradition of Florentine marbled paper!
Coordinated by the artists and cultural facilitators, Emilia Telese and Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir, this workshop offers participants a chance to create beautiful Italian paper in the Renaissance tradition of paper marbling. Participants will be provided with all materials needed to make their own Carta Fiorentina, a patterned paper full of colours and abstract motifs. The art of Florentine paper is ancient and dates back to the connection between Florentine paper makers and Chinese techniques of the 8th century, imported to Florence through Arab merchants in the XVI Century. In Iceland, it is traditionally used to line book covers. It truly symbolizes communication and cultural cross-pollination between different countries.
The goal of this workshop is to promote intercultural understanding and provide a space for people from different backgrounds to come together and create something meaningful. The workshop is open to individuals of all ages and skill levels, but children are expected to be accompanied by an adult. Guests are welcome to drop by at any time during the workshop. The spoken languages of the workshop are Italian, Icelandic and English.
