Aðalsteinn Ingólfsson, born in 1948, studied art history in the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Italy. He has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts and the University of Iceland. He has written art criticism and cultural commentary for Vísir, DV, Fréttablaðið, and RÚV. He has worked at the Reykjavík Art Museum, the National Gallery of Iceland, and at Sigurjón Ólafsson Museum, and was also the first director of the Museum of Design and Applied Art in Iceland. He has curated over 100 exhibitions in Iceland, Sweden, and Canada. He has written around 40 books on Icelandic and Faroese art; his most recent book was published recently and focuses on Guðmundur Elíasson, a sculptor and contemporary of Gerður Helgadóttir and Hörður Ágústsson in Paris.
Hörður is a retrospective exhibition of the works of Hörður Ágústsson that opens at Gerðarsafn on February 4, 2026. The exhibition will focus on Hörður’s abstract geometric works and how they relate to his design and artistic thinking. How his formal approach extends between art forms and from visual products to his conceptual world and writings about art.
The exhibition is curated by Brynja Sveinsdóttir and Studio Studio (Arnar Freyr Guðmundsson and Birna Geirfinnsdóttir)
