Nanna Abell‘s exhibition OLÍS EYELASH AXIS opens in Gerðarsafn‘s sculpture garden and Y gallery at 15:00 on Saturday the 6th of June. Abell draws out tones, textures, architectural particularities and local histories in an exhibition that is rooted here, but formed at distance.
„Her works extend the architecture, with a stretch of drainpipe echoing wire as it begins to unravel and twist its way down the slick exterior, toward the volcanic earth. Ivy-like coils are tightly pinned to the grey roughcast, sprouting from a fracture and seeking to invade the building’s frontage. Wrapping a corner, a hairy, snarled form is bound in place yet stretches out, seeking to ensnarl the museum’s CCTV camera. Disrupting the European-style perfectly mown lawn and imported, thoughtfully planted flowerbeds are two crushed oil barrels, delicately placed on grassy plinths.“
