In the past years, Gerðarsafn and Náttúrusafn Kópavogs have developed together an educational project called Art and Nature. Children in older classes of kindergarten and the first classes of elementary school in Kópavogur were invited to an educational program in both museums where art- and nature education are woven together.

Gerðarsafn Museum and the Nature Museum have also participated in an international collaborative project involving six museums from five different countries that explore the relationship between art and nature through art education. Among them are: Fondation Beyeler (Switzerland), Museum Sinclair-Haus (Germany), Moderna Museet (Sweden), and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark). Over the past five years, the museums have met annually to engage in peer learning, exchange experiences, and strengthen professional collaboration around art and nature.
