The third iteration of Lúppa is a dialogue between two video works that each, in their own way, address the interplay between nature and marketing, transformation, tourism, and the desire to experience something extraordinary.
The work Getur þú hugsað í sviðsmyndum? (2022) by Kristín Karólína Helgadóttir was created in the vicinity of Vatnajökull at the end of the pandemic. The title of the work poses the question: Can you think in scenarios? as the work itself collides dreams, advertising, climate crisis, social media, and tourism. Kristín had recently moved from the whirlwind of mainland Europe to the extremely rural region of Öræfi in Iceland. This relocation became the catalyst for the work, which plays with different scenarios—a speculation about what is yet to come, a possible end of the world. The piece was originally produced for the exhibition Rolling Snowball at the Ars Longa Museum in Djúpivogur.
Kristín Karólína (b. 1988) uses a variety of media in her practice to shed light on the inner tension and latent ambivalence between Western lifestyles and the nature that humans construct. She creates dreamlike transformations that intertwine with a play on the everyday, forming unexpected connections or even revelations. Her works suggest that the past may be intertwined with the present, and that the things surrounding us invariably contain multiple inner layers.
The solar eclipse, once interpreted as an ominous disruption of nature’s rhythm, is now a predictable event and a pop-cultural spectacle complete with accompanying merchandise and memorabilia. In a time marked by ideological polarization and a growing need to feel connected to the world, Eclipse Chasers (2017 – 2024 -) by Consider to be Allies, explores nature’s unifying power. The films illustrate how the artificial and human-made influence our relationship with nature. Sounds and lights from urban environments seep into the natural experience, and pop-cultural references are used as a shared frame of understanding.
Consider to be Allies is the collaborative project of Margaux Parillaud (FR) and Mie Frederikke Fischer Christensen (DK). They work across media, with time-based arts such as performance, video and installation as well as graphic and visual arts. Their practice stems from an interest in mediation and examines how perception of reality and opinion making are shaped by collective experiences and media consumption.
Lúppa is an exhibition series in which two video works are paired and played in a continuous loop. Every few weeks, the rhythm shifts and new works take over. The third iteration of Lúppa will be on view from 17.06 – 24.08.2026.
