All are welcome to a guided tour of the exhibition Transformation and the new sculpture park with museum director, Brynja Sveinsdóttir. The guided tour will be on Wednesday 14th August at 12.15 p.m. Please note the event will be in Icelandic.

Transformation is an exhibition of the works of Gerður Helgadóttir to mark the 30th anniversary of Gerðarsafn Kopavogur Art
Museum. Throughout her career, Gerður created works that reflect important speculations about human existence, form and material. In this exhibition, Gerður’s complex and multifaceted art is placed in a context that emphasises intimate moments and draws out connections between artworks.

The exhibition seeks to show different sides of her creative process and her contribution to art history. Gerður Helgadóttir left a unique heritage in Icelandic art that bears witness to her deep search for aesthetic truth. Her works reflect skills and an understanding of materials and of sculpture as such. Her works give us insight into the mind of an artist and creation that affects us still today. Gerður had a unique sensitivity regarding form and space and a skill to create artwork that shift the traditional mode of expression. Her constant search for new ways to communicate, explore ideas and gain a better understanding of her environment can be seen in her versatile works. The curator is Cecilie Cedet Gaihede.
